Report: D'Antoni not in danger of losing job, yet

The Knicks[*] finally broke an ugly stretch where they had lost 11 of 13 by beating the Nets[*] behind a surprise performance from Jeremy Lin[*] . Still, the seat coach Mike D'Antoni is sitting on isn't warm or even hot. It's seat-belt-in-the-summer-time hot. I'm surprised he's even sitting in the thing during games and not just standing.
But he's not about to be fired as of now, according to Newsday[*] :
A league source said D'Antoni isn't in danger of losing his job. If the losing continues, however, that could change.
D'Antoni has said he's not thinking about his job and while we all obviously know that's not true, the fact is, he can't worry much about it. He's got bigger issues to figure out and in his mind, things could be looking up soon. Baron Dav ...more
West thinks teams shouldn't trade stars

Jerry West is old school. And while there were certainly players who wanted out and negotiated their way out of their teams during his era, it wasn't the marketing/sponsorships/exposure/sta r-power league it is today back when he played. West has been involved in the league for decades, was around for the Shaq transformation in L.A.. And in his mind, all this nonsense from players forcing their way out through trade demands should be stopped... by management. From ESPN.com:
I honestly think I'd call their bluff," West said in an interview on 710 ESPN's Mason and Ireland show Thursday, not mentioning Howard specifically. "I really would, because I don't think any agent or player is going to leave $30 million on the table.
"I just don't believe that's going to happen."
"If I were an executive on a team where a player says he's going to leave, let him leave," West said on 710 ESP ...more

Officials in talks to bring NBA back to Seattle
Read Story at its original location in its best possible format
By Matt Moore[*] When the Sonics left Seattle, it was regarded as one of all-time basketball tragedies. Not just because over 40 years of history was wiped away, but because the way it happened left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. And even though Oklahoma City has worked out pretty awesome as an NBA city, talk has persisted that Seattle needs a team back. Apparently some people in Seattle's mayor's office and a wealthy owner prospect are making good on that talk. The Seattle Times reports:
A wealthy San Francisco hedge-fund manager and officials in the Seattle mayors office have been working behind the scenes for eight months to bring an NBA team back to the city as early as next fall and build a new arena, according to emails and documents that reveal a far more concerted effort than previously known.
A Dec. 13 agenda for a meeting between the parties shows they were talking about details such as a "Review of Basic D ...more
Scola handled Love stomping his face with class

No one would've held it against Luis Scola[*] to blast Kevin Love[*] for what may have been a cheap shot Saturday night[*] . Whether Love meant to stomp on Scola or not, you know Scola probably didn't feel great about it.
Instead, Scola decided to handle the situation with total, impressive class saying, "I just don't care about that play. The game is over."
Scola instead only said that maybe he was bothered that the officials didn't call a foul on Love for hitting him across the arms.
Love pleaded innocence in regards to the stomp telling the Star Tribune[*] , "He was kind of right there ... I have size-19 feet. He just happened to be there. I had nowhere to go. I kind of tripped up. I just had nowhere to step. It was a Heat[*] -of-the-moment type play. He ...more

Roy Hibbert[*] wants to stay in Indiana, but is unlikely to agree to an extension by Wednesday's deadline to re-sign 2008 draft picks, his agent, David Falk, said Monday.
"There's no rush," Falk said. "I think it’s unlikely that we’ll come to agreement this week. It doesn’t mean in any way that he's not happy in Indiana. ... We've had very friendly discussions, and both sides recognize that the discussion is probably premature."
Last year, only five of the 30 first-round picks agreed to in-season extensions that took them off the restricted free-agent market, including a five-year, $85 million deal for Kevin Durant[*] in Oklahoma City. So far this year, only the Bulls[*] ' Derrick Rose[*] and Durant's teammate, Russell Westbrook[*] , have gotten extensions done. The Hornets[*] will be without power forward Carl Landru for the next couple weeks as the team announced Sunday that Landry will miss 3-4 weeks with an MCL sprain.
The injury occured Saturday against the Pistons[*] after a collision with Jason Maxiell[*] in the third quarter.
Obviously in response to losing Landry, the Hornets signed forward Lance Thomas for 10 days[*] . Thomas, a 6-8 second-year pro out of Duke, was in training camp with New Orleans and saw brief playing time in two of the Hornets' first three regular season games before being waived on Dec. 31. He spent his first pro season in the D-League.
Not a massive blow to the Hornets as the team is just 4-20 and has lost five straight. They've been without Eric Gordon[*] for pretty much the entire season as well as center Chris Kaman[*] who was being shopped in trade talks. Kaman has returned, but the team isn't built to win right now, which i ...more
